Water Pollution is a Growing Problem
Just this week they traced 13 birth defects (Dixon, TN),
just down the road from me, to polluted water. The
chemicals they attribute to the defects belong to a group
of chemicals called Vocs, also called endocrine or
hormonal disrupters. This is SO sad. My heart went
out to the mothers as they cried on local TV. There is no
current technology that removes all chemicals, and
people are so uninformed about the technology that is
available. There are water filters that can reduce 99% of
the Vocs. That's why I felt so ill watching these women.
It didn't have to be.
Please be informed and share this with others. There are
hundreds of companies out there and only a handful can
do what they say they can. For example, as of Jan 1999
out of hundreds of companies, only 21 were certified to
reduce trihalomethanes, a potent Voc. Companies have
been known to lie about certification. Ask for proof! If
it's a good product, the water filter will be supported by
independent studies. Don't be fooled. The ones
affected the most are the unborn, children and the
immune compromised.
A couple misconceptions are:
1. Vocs are in our water in very small amounts and
won't hurt us. False, these are potent chemicals and
they are finding that a little accumulated over long periods
can cause cancer, birth defect and hormonal disruption.
2. Distillers remove everything. This is not true, especially
if you don't replace the carbon often. Vocs are volatile;
they will recondense back into the water.
For further information please look at the research I have
gathered. I am currently researching toluene (one of the
Voc chemicals they suspect caused the above defects)
and atrazine, a pesticide found in our water supply.

If you have a filter, call the company and ask them to
send you the results of the independent studies. Or you
can e-mail me with the companies name and the model
number of your water filter and I will tell you if they are
certified and the range of chemicals they are certified to
reduce. (By the way, if a company uses the word remove,
as in they remove so and so, they are not certified. It is
against certification policy to say remove. They must
say reduce.)
